Oskar von Schab
Oskar von Schab , also Oscar von Schab , (born August 2, 1901 in Shanghai ; † November 9, 1977 in Pöcking ) was a German artist ( painter , set designer ), acting teacher and actor on the stage, film and television.
Live and act
Oskar von Schab came into acting in the early 1920s when he joined the masked car of the Holtorf troupe, a small touring theater company founded by Hans Holtorf . In the period that followed, von Schab never worked as a permanent member of a renowned stage, but instead devoted himself to other artistic activities. He can be proven as a painter (especially portraits of women) and (until all German theaters are closed in late summer 1944) as a freelance stage designer.
Over the years his core activity became that of an acting teacher. Until the end of the Second World War he taught drama students at the theater school of the Deutsches Theater Berlin, after the war he practiced the same profession at Munich's Falckenberg School before he went into business for himself and opened his own small drama school. Over the decades, his students included Enzi Fuchs , Elisabeth Goebel , Michael Delcroix , Georg Troeger , Gerd Udo Feller , Michael Grimm and the later circumnavigator and adventurer Rollo Gebhard .
Apart from two small appearances in two Veit Harlan productions in the 1950s, Oskar von Schab almost never appeared in front of the camera until the late 1960s. Only with his professor in Hans W. Geißendörfer's vampire film Jonathan did he start a late screen career. Other young filmmakers at the time, such as Hans-Jürgen Syberberg and the directing duo Bernhard Sinkel and Alf Brustellin, signed the late- career workers who were already retired and cast them in later famous films such as Ludwig - Requiem for a Virgin King and Lina Braake . Most recently Oskar von Schab lived in Pöcking in Upper Bavaria.
