Oskar Dolhart (born May 9, 1907 in Gelsenkirchen ; † August 6, 1982 in Holzminden ) was a German graphic artist and painter .

life and work

Oskar Dolhart first completed a commercial apprenticeship in Kiel , came into contact with graphics and art during his work and studied from 1930 to 1933 at the Werkkunstschule in Hamburg and Kiel.

After completing his studies, Dolhart worked as a freelance graphic artist, from 1941 to 1943 for the magazine “Die Seeflieger der Deutschen Luftwaffe” in Berlin .

He did military service in the Air Force and came to Holzminden in 1945, where he began to practice his new passion - landscape painting. Numerous oil and watercolor paintings of the Weserbergland were created. There is hardly a characteristic curve of the river, hardly any mountain range, not a city silhouette that he has not captured in his pictures.

In addition to his free artistic work, Dolhart worked as a book illustrator and commercial artist. One of his most important works is undoubtedly the design of the logo of the Holzminden-based fragrance company Haarmann & Reimer (today Symrise AG ), the hummingbird sucking in bloom . He also designed writing paper for Schleicher & Schüll in Einbeck and Hahnemühle in Dassel ; he worked for the companies Heimbs-Kaffee and Grundig AG . His book illustrations include the drawings for Der große Bien by Herbert Krebs (1948).

A lively art and culture scene developed in Holzminden in the 1950s. Rudolf Jahns and Kurt Rosner belonged to the circle in which Dolhart also moved.
