Oskar Felsko

Oskar Eduard Daniel Felsko (born June 17, 1848 in Riga , Livonia Gouvernement , † 1921 in Mitau , Latvia ) was a German-Baltic portrait painter from the Düsseldorf School and drawing teacher .

Life

Oskar Felsko, son of the Riga city architect Johann Daniel Felsko and his wife Georgine Wilhelmine, née Groos, first began studying pharmacy after school , which he soon gave up in favor of studying sculpture at the Imperial Art Academy in Saint Petersburg . But he didn't like this subject either, so that he moved to Düsseldorf in the 1870s and studied painting with Eduard Gebhardt . In 1879 he returned to Riga. There he worked as a portrait painter. He also set up drawing and painting courses for women. In 1880 he took over the post of curatorof the Riga City Gallery. From 1884 to 1891 he taught freehand drawing at the Riga Polytechnic . In 1891 he moved to Mitau, where he also worked as a portrait painter and teacher.
