OV Werndorff
Oskar Friedrich Werndorff , usually abbreviated as OF Werndorff (born May 30, 1880 in Vienna , † November 7, 1938 in Wembley , London , United Kingdom ) was an Austrian film architect for Austrian, German and British cinema.
Live and act
Oskar Friedrich Werndorff received extensive artistic training in Vienna. In 1913 he broke off his studies prematurely and went to the theater in der Josefstadt as a set designer . Drafted during the First World War, Werndorff began working as a film architect from 1919. Initially he designed film sets for several productions by Reinhold Schünzel , including The Count of Cagliostro, The Novel of a Maid and The Pantoffelheld .
For the scenes and the costumes for the historical drama Carlos and Elisabeth took Richard Oswald Werndorff 1923 to Berlin . In 1925, the Viennese achieved two major successes in quick succession with his film architecture, EA Dupont's classic Varieté and Paul Czinner's The Violinist of Florence . However, his subsequent German work up to 1928 disappointed.
In the phase of transition from silent to sound film, OW Werndorff decided to move to London. After attempting to direct, he found regular employment there in 1931, some of which were quite successful cinema productions, including three thrillers by Alfred Hitchcock : The 39 Steps , Secret Agent and Sabotage . At the same time, in December 1935, Werndorff was naturalized in Great Britain.
