action

Gerald, the head of a vaudeville troupe, has turned the little dancer Sonja Litovskaya into a famous revue star. Wherever she appears, the audience cheers. The old Duke of Olivarez, in sincere friendship with Gerald, immediately recognizes that Sonja has more than just professional cooperation in common. No doubt: Gerald is in love with the famous woman. When the troupe is once again making a guest appearance in Barcelona, the noble gentleman Gerald advises to finally reveal himself to Sonja. The variety director now decides to follow his old friend's advice that very evening and to confess his love to Sonja, a stupid coincidence prevents this. On this very evening Sonja meets the passionate and seductive Alfredo de Cavalcante, who arouses in her all those feelings that were previously hidden in her. Seductive and rich on top of that, this young noblewoman can pull her to his bed the following night. The next morning Sonja leaves everything behind, leaves the group and follows Alfredo to his castle.

While Sonja now spends weeks of happiness, Gerald buries himself in deep grief and moves on with his troop. Sonja soon has to realize that her blood continues to flow in her. So that she doesn't get stupid thoughts, Alfredo Sonja wants to get married as soon as possible and therefore asks his parents' consent. Sonja agrees to become his wife and henceforth renounces the dance. One day Gerald's revue theater returns to Barcelona, and promptly his main female attraction falls ill. Gerald asks Sonja to step in again for this one time. But Sonja remains steadfast and adheres to the promise she made to Alfredo. But then she can't do anything else - she just has to dance, dance, dance. And so Sonja returns to the stage, intoxicated by the movement and the fame, and overwhelms the raging audience. Gerald then brings her to her husband Alfredo's home, but there she only finds a farewell letter from her husband. The old Duke of Olivarez had previously convinced the young aristocrat that he did not have the right to forbid his beautiful young wife to have the great passion of her life: dance. And so Alfredo lets his wife go. Shaken by grief, Sonja collapses. While Alfredo has to watch his wife leaving through the window with great sadness, Gerald has won Sonja back for high art.
