The Wandering Light is a German silent film from 1916 with Henny Porten in the lead role.
action
Anna von Glassner gets to know the rich eccentric von Fahrenwald at a casino ball. Despite some rumors, the niece of a career officer wants to marry him, when one day she receives several mysterious letters. Fahrwald is said to be insane, they say. Anna doesn't believe the rumors and marries him anyway. On the evening of their marriage, the rumors seem to be true. Strange things happen and finally there is a terrible argument with the new husband, as a result of which Anna hastily leaves the castle.
The Count's servant, who upheld the impression that his master was not in his right mind, insinuated Count Fahrenwald that his escaped wife was actually already dead and buried in the castle garden. Anna's longing is stronger than the fear of the castle and its eerie inhabitants, and that's how she finally returns. Soon the truth emerges: it is not her husband who has gone mad, but rather his cunning servant has gone mad.
