Jānis Strupulis , monogram JS , (born January 28, 1949 in Vecpiebalga , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian sculptor and graphic designer.

Life

He graduated from the Latvian Art Academy (Department of Sculpture, Ceramics and Glass Art) in 1973 and has been a member of the Artists Union of Latvia since 1978. He is also a member of the Latvian Designers Association and FIDEM, Honorary Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, President of the Latvia Art Medal Club.

Together with Gunārs Lūsis he designed a series of the Latvian coin Lats (1992), the 2 Lats bimetal coin (1999) and a variant of the 1 Lats (1999, 2001) and many more. In 2013, together with Gunārs Lūsis, he designed the 20 Lats silver coin with the theme of Silver Salmon.

Jānis Strupulis has participated in exhibitions since 1971. His main work is in the area of medals , coins , pictures and drawings. His works are exhibited in about 15 states and over 50 museums. He has the stone / bronze memorial plaque for Ernst von Bergmann (2011) and Johann Christoph Brotze (1996, texts in Latvian and German ), as well as Ernests Brastiņš (2007), Herberts Tīmers (2006, architect, 1897–1938), Christoph Haberland ( 1994) and designed by Aleksandrs Tīpainis in Riga .
