Feenhände is a German silent film from 1917 with Henny Porten in a double role.

action

Countess Helene comes from an impoverished aristocracy and is fed by her extended Föhrwald family. When one day young Georg, a close relative, begins to be more interested in her than the family council approves, she is told that she has to leave the cozy home. In order to have a livelihood, she should be passed on to a noble family in Sweden as a companion. For Countess Helene, this eviction is also a kind of wake-up call: she now decides to finally take her life into her own hands and start her own business. Helene pursues a career as a milliner under the pseudonym Marie Madeleine .

Helene can even give something back to her foster family Föhrwald when she can obtain the concession for a railway line that is supposed to lead across the uncle's country, which would bring him a lot of money. The much older Prince Gisberti is involved in the big deal. He made her a marriage proposal after further involvement of Helene alias Marie Madeleine's engagement had temporarily put her in a wrong light. The Föhrwald family, which Helene had misjudged for a long time, must now apologize. Now Georg recognizes his deep love for her and snaps Helene under the prince's nose. Both celebrate engagement.
