Frau Eva is a German silent film melodrama from 1916 by Robert Wiene with Erna Morena in the title role.
action
Eva comes from a simple background and longs for nothing more than a life in luxury. One day she meets a decent, respectable man who, thanks to hard work, has made it to co-owner of a factory. Both marry. Eva, who has nothing but pomp and pleasure on her mind, turns to her husband's company partner and can tempt him to throw himself into expense at company costs. This soon brought the factory to the brink of ruin, and Eva's husband only now notices what was going on behind his back all the time. Now Mrs. Eva also has some understanding. When she realizes how much harm she has caused by her actions, she repents and takes her own life.
Production notes
Frau Eva was made at the end of 1915 in the Messter-Film-Atelier in Berlin's Blücherstraße 32, passed film censorship in February 1916 and was premiered in the same month in Berlin's Mozart Hall. The film, which was banned from young people, had three acts and a length of about 1,300 meters.
Emil Jannings played his first leading role in a film here.
