Oskar Stocker regularly portrays one of the top-class guest authors for the book program "erLesen" produced by ORF every 14 days . From Elfriede Ott to Christine Nöstlinger and Matthias Hartmann to Erwin Steinhauer - Oskar Stocker portrayed them for "erLesen". On the occasion of the 100th broadcast, an illustrated book was published showing the first 100 portraits painted by Oskar Stocker. His repertoire includes abstract as well as figurative works and his unmistakable color schemes both emphasize and veil what is depicted. In addition to portraits of individuals, he devotes himself to depicting landscapes and objects, right down to the smallest of objects.

“A century after the crisis of the portrait as an academic obligation, it is again becoming a possible subject. At a time when almost all portraits are created through electronic media, portrait art is exciting and interesting for a number of current artists. Oskar Stocker, who lives in Graz, is undoubtedly one of them. There is probably no time when Stocker did not paint, but it took some academic and professional detours before he could devote himself entirely to painting. In addition to abstract works and figurative representations, he now devotes himself to portrait art . ”From: Facing Nations, Encounters at Eye Level, Guido Schlimbach, Artistic Director Kunststation St. Peter , Cologne, 2008.

“The Austrian painter Oskar Stocker has always dealt with the portrait in his artistic work since his first beginnings. In doing so, he uses the human face to raise questions of art, meaning, meaningfulness and self in the intensive confrontation with the other, the counterpart, and to set them in a context of appropriation. The portraits are not primarily mimetic and strive for accuracy of superficial expression, but pursue the aspect of essence and the condensation of all factors of being in the shape of the face - deliberately renouncing strict realism ", says Gabriele Uelsberg , Director of the LVR-Landesmuseum Bonn, in Verbo (r) gen, 2013.
