At the end of the 1980s he then moved to the Turkish club Samsunspor . In the summer of 1990 he was accepted into the professional squad of the then second division team. In the professional team, he made it into the regular formation straight away and completed 32 of the possible 34 league games by the end of the season. With his team he celebrated the second division championship and thus direct promotion to the first league at the end of the season . During that one season Akyol also rose to the Turkish U-21 international and became one of the league's youngsters. While Akyol was promoted to the 1st Lig, he remained a regular player, but he missed relegation with his team at the end of the season and was relegated to the 2nd Lig.

Relegated to the 2nd league, Samsunspor hired Zeynel Soyuer, one of the most experienced coaches in Turkish football at the time. Akyol played in the 1992/93 season at this club with mostly young and then unknown players such as Ercan Koloğlu , İmdat Arslan , Müjdat Gürsu , Ertuğrul Sağlam , Bünyamin Kubat , Orhan Kaynak , Serkan Aykut , Cenk İşler , all of whom later became important personalities should be in Turkish football. Soyuer managed to build a strong team from this young team, which became second division champions at the end of the season and rose to the first league. After the rise, Soyuer was replaced by the Romanian coach Gheorghe Mulțescu . Under this coach Akyol's team became the surprise team of the 1993/94 first division season . After the team overwintered in 3rd place in the table, the season ended in 5th place in the table. Akyol was one of the most noticeable players on his team and rose to the Turkish national team with his performances .

After the successful first division season Akyol counted together with other teammates to the most popular players in the summer transfer season 1994. Akyol moved to Galatasaray Istanbul . At Galatasaray he was only used sporadically by German trainer Reinhard Saftig and was mostly on the bench. For the 1995/96 season, Graeme Souness took over as coach at Galatasaray . Under this coach, Akyol took part in the pre-season preparation camp and was then put on the list of players who should be loaned by Souness. Akyol spent the 1995/96 season on loan with the first division club. After a year Akyol finally moved to Antalyaspor and played here for two years.

In the summer of 1998 Akyol hired Altay Izmir , but already left this club after six weeks and moved to Konyaspor . After three years for Konyaspor he played one more season as an amateur player at Kemerspor and ended his career in the summer of 2002.

National team

Akyol played twice for the Turkish U-16 national team during his time at Hertha Zehlendorf .
