Ercan Koloğlu (born August 11, 1968 in Trabzon ) is a former Turkish football player . Due to his many years of work for Samsunspor , he is very strongly associated with this association. On the fan and club side, he is seen as one of the most important players in the club's history and is known as Büyük Kaptan (German: Great Captain) because of his long team captaincy. He was voted into the best team in the club's history by the Samsunspor supporters .

Player career

society

Koloğlu started club football in the youth of the Turkish Black Sea club Samsunspor . Here he made it into the squad of the professional team in the summer of 1987 and completed six league games for his team by the end of the season. Samsunspor had finished the last two seasons in 3rd place in the table and ended the season 1987/88 in 4th place in the table. The club also started successfully in the 1988/89 season and established itself at the top. Koloğlu completed four league matches until the winter break. On the first match day of the second half of the season, the team had to play away against Malatyaspor . On the outward journey to Malatya , the Samsunspors team bus had a serious accident in which several players, coaches and club officials were killed or seriously injured. Due to this event, the team could not take part in the game in the second half of the season, so the Turkish Football Association decided not to let Samsunspor play for the second half. All games were decided 3-0 for the opponent Samsunspors. Samsunspor was bottom of the table, but not relegated. Koloğlu was in the squad during the accident but did not suffer any serious injuries.

Samsunspor started the new season in the 1st Lig and Koloğlu made it into the regular formation immediately, also benefiting from the lack of players. By the end of the season he had played all of his team's league games, was appointed to the Turkish U-21 national team , and became one of the league's shooting stars. Since Samsunspor failed to stay up at the end of the season, they were not averse to handing over Koloğlu for a good transfer fee.

The Istanbul giants Fenerbahçe responded and undertook Kologlu for the upcoming season. Here he immediately enjoyed the trust of coach Guus Hiddink and later his successor Erol Togay and completed 21 of the 32 league games. He also rose to the national team during his first season at Fenerbahçe. In his second season for the yellow-blue team, coach Jozef Vengloš hardly considered him in the team planning and, with three exceptions, only sat on the bench.

In the 1992/93 season he moved to his old club Samsunspor in the 2nd Lig . Here he immediately established himself as a top performer and achieved direct promotion to the 1st Lig with his team through the championship of the 2nd Lig. Here he played a successful first round with his team and was second in the table at the winter break. The second half of the season was mixed, so that at the end of the season, the league finished in 5th place in the table. Koloğlu was quickly declared team captain at Samsunspor and wore the captain's armband until the end of his career in the summer of 2003. Since he came from the city of Trabzon , Trabzonspor tried several times to recruit Koloğlu, but failed each time with this project.

National team

Koloğlu was nominated for the first time for the Turkish U-21 national team during his second season at Samsunspor in 1989 and played two games for the U-21s in two years.

In 1990 he was nominated for the Turkish national team as part of a qualifier for the European Championship in 1992 against the Irish national team and made his international debut during this encounter. Five years later he received a new nomination for a friendly against the Israeli national team and played his second and last international match in this game.
