Osmium (III) bromide is a chemical compound of osmium from the bromide group .

Extraction and presentation

Osmium (III) bromide can be obtained by thermal decomposition of osmium (IV) bromide at 300–400 ° C in a closed environment.

More recent studies suggest that the compound does not exist, but that osmium oxide bromide Os 2 OBr 6 is formed in this compound through the presence of air . However, some studies confirm the formation of OsBr 3,4-3,6 phases.

properties

Osmium (III) bromide is a dark gray solid that is practically insoluble in water. The compound crystallizes in the zirconium (III) iodide structure.
