Kasaï-Oriental is a province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The capital of Kasaï-Oriental is the city of Mbuji-Mayi . The population was estimated at over 3 million in 2015.

Kasaï-Oriental is located in the southern center of the country and borders in the northeast with Sankuru , in the east and south with Lomami and in the west with Kasaï-Central .
history
The area of today's province of Kasaï-Oriental belonged to a significantly larger province of the same name . This province was to be divided into three new provinces by an administrative reform decided in 2005. This territorial reform was first postponed and canceled in January 2011 by a constitutional amendment by President Joseph Kabila . However, the reorganization was implemented in 2015 and large parts of the former province were separated.
