The Ostaš (German Wostasch , also Ostasch ) is a table mountain in the central Sudetes in the Náchod region in the Czech Republic . The mountain has been under state protection as a nature reserve since 1956.

location

The total area of ​​the area, which rises from 640 to 700 meters, is 29.5 hectares. It is located about two kilometers northwest of the city of Police nad Metují . The highest point of the Ostáš , the Frýdlantská skála , offers a beautiful view of the Habicht Mountains , the Adršpach-Weckelsdorf rock town , the Giant , Heidel , Heuscheuer and Falken Mountains . In the southern and eastern part you will find rock labyrinths with bizarre rock formations.

history

The nature reserve, the center of which is Polická vrchovina , was proclaimed on July 4th, 1956 .

Protected area

The geological and geomorphological shape of the area is to be protected . The foot of the Ostaš is surrounded by large piles of stones to the north, west and south. On the south-western slope there are large-format rock crevices.

The interesting rock formations and viewpoints with good foresight are important for tourism. The circular route leads hikers through the rock city of the upper labyrinth and over hills with numerous viewing stations. Climbers will find walls of low to medium difficulty here.
