Ostap Witaljewitsch Kovalenko ( Russian Остап Витальевич Коваленко , English transcription Ostap Kovalenko ; born March 1, 2001 ) is a Russian tennis player .

Career

Kowalenko, who comes from Bashkortostan and started playing tennis at the age of five, had a positive match record in his time as a junior and achieved his best position with 326 in the junior world rankings at the end of 2018.

In 2018 he began studying computer science and mathematics at Hofstra University in New York State. There he also played college tennis on the college team. So far, his balance is 12: 5. After he had not played another match at professional level, he was awarded a wildcard for the doubles field at the New York Open , an event on the ATP Tour, at the side of his fellow student Shawn Jackson in early 2020 . Against the pairing of Robert Lindstedt and Tennys Sandgren they only managed to win one game. Kowalenko has not yet been placed in the tennis world rankings.
