The Osthessenschau was a consumer fair that took place every two years in the East Hessian baroque and episcopal city of Fulda . Messe Fulda GmbH was the organizer of the regional exhibition.

background

The name of the fair is derived from the region of the same name, East Hesse , whose economic and cultural center is the city of Fulda. The fair took place every two years in the autumn months and regularly lasted nine days.

history

The origins of the Osthessenschau go back over 100 years, because in July 1904 a large trade exhibition took place in Fulda for the first time. However, it was not until 1972 that the first East Hesse show opened its doors in Fulda.

Up to and including 1999, the Ochsenwiese fairground in downtown Fulda served as the exhibition space. In 2002 the trade fair changed its location and moved to the new Fulda-Galerie exhibition center . The new exhibition grounds in the west of the city of Fulda, in the Sickels district, served the 4th Squadron ("Thunderhorse") of the American 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment ("Blackhorse") stationed in Fulda as a helicopter base under the name Sickels Army Airfield .

The new exhibition center has more space and parking space than the previous location as well as over 70,000 m² of exhibition and open space, a car test track and an off-road course for off-road vehicles .

In 2010 the Osthessenschau took place for the 17th time. The trade fair manager Dieter Udolph announced in 2012 that the Osthessenschau will no longer exist: "The event has already died for seven years and is a thing of the past".

concept

From the beginning, the Osthessenschau was conceived as a performance show for the local economy. The focal points of the trade fair are still today the areas of craft, trade, industry and trade, sport and leisure.

In addition to the actual trade fair program, there are regular entertainment and show programs, special shows and special events. In 2004, for example, a special exhibition on China took place, in which replicas of the terracotta soldiers of the Chinese Emperor Qin were exhibited.

meaning

With over 300 exhibitors, the Osthessenschau had developed into one of the largest regional trade fairs in the urban quadrangle between Frankfurt , Würzburg , Erfurt and Kassel and so far had almost two million visitors.
