The Eastern Sayan ( Russian Восто́чный Сая́н ; also Eastern Sayan ) is a mountain range in the south of Siberia .
The East Sayan is occasionally combined with the West Sayan branching off to the southwest to form the " Sayan Mountains ". It extends over a length of 1000 km from the Krasnoyarsk region in the west, across the Irkutsk Oblast , the northeastern part of the Tuva Republic , the southern part of Buryatia to the southern shore of Lake Baikal and Mongolia in the east. The mountain range is divided into two parts by a rift valley: a part in the northeast that originated in the late Precambrian and a southwest part that originated in the early Caledonian orogeny .
