Oswald Huber

Oswald Huber (born June 18, 1942 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian psychologist and cartoonist .

After an apprenticeship as a repro photographer, the Huber graduated in 1960, he took in 1966 at a night school in Vienna the Matura after. Then he studied psychology , philosophy and zoology at the University of Salzburg and was established in 1972 with a thesis on decision theory to Dr. phil. PhD . From 1971 to 1989 he was an assistant at the Institute for Psychology there. In 1982 the habilitation followed and from 1983 to 1986 a substitute professor at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) . From 1989 to 2013 he was professor of psychology there. He has been retired since 2013.

He deals with risk decisions and computer simulations of decision-making processes. In contrast to decision-making processes in simple lotteries, he is interested in real-life decision-making situations in which he determines that his test subjects are looking for risk defusing operators.

He published his first cartoons as a student. Today his drawings appear under the abbreviation “OH” in Medical Tribune , FAZ , Werbewoche , Spektrum der Wissenschaft and NZZ am Sonntag, for example .

His textbook The Psychological Experiment , which is also enriched with his cartoons, is one of the standard works of the first semester in psychology studies.
