In the 1950s, Oswald Karch was a well-known participant in national racing events on both sides of the inner-German border. Karch primarily took part in monopostor races and initially used his self-made BMW, which he soon replaced with a Veritas RS .
With this he also took part in the 1953 German Grand Prix , but was unable to place in the race (he started from 34th place on the grid, 35 vehicles were at the start) after a retirement. In 1954, after some successes in national races, he drove the 12-hour race in Casablanca and achieved sixth place in the highly competitive class up to 2-liter displacement. He had already taken part in this race in 1953 .
