Oswald Pöstinger

Oswald Pöstinger (pseudonym: Oswald Caesar , born January 19, 1929 in Sierning , † September 2, 1997 in Linz ) was an Austrian composer , arranger and conductor .

Live and act

Oswald Pöstinger was born on January 19, 1929 in Sierning , Upper Austria . He studied piano and composition at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz (today Anton Bruckner Private University ). In 1946 he became a pupil of Josef Matthias Hauer - in whose seminar for twelve-tone music he took part - and from 1950 of Egon Kornauth and Carl Orff . 1951 began his musical activity for the ORF in Linz. He was in charge of the literary cabaret and radio plays, with around 200 compositions being created.

In 1954 he was the arranger and conductor of the first musical produced in Austria, The Virgin of New Orleans . From 1957 he was a répétiteur at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz. From 1960 he arranged operettas and film music by Robert Stolz (including Venus in Silk ), Rudolf Kattniggs Balkanliebe and Paul Abrahams Blume von Hawaii for the Mörbisch Seefestspiele as well as arrangements for Marika Rökk and the Linzer Buam .

In 1965 the collaboration with the Linz operetta composer Igo Hofstetter began , for whose operettas Roulette der Herzen , Alles speaks von Charpillon and Schach der Boss he created the arrangement. In 1966 he was musical advisor and répétiteur for the Wiener Festwochen on the occasion of the world premiere of the opera The Black Spider by Josef Matthias Hauer. This was followed by arrangements for the Pro Brass ensemble and, in 1980, the Ballet Labyrinth (based on Josef Matthias Hauer) as a commission for the Landestheater Linz . Until his retirement he worked as a teacher at the Landesmusikschule Neuhofen an der Krems .

Oswald Pöstinger died on September 2, 1997 in Linz.
