Igo Hofstetter

Igo Hofstetter (* 1. June 1926 in Linz , † 2. March 2002 ) was an Austrian operettas - Composer .

He was best known for his operettas Roulette of Hearts and Chess the Boss as well as his upscale entertainment and brass music . His compositions are characterized by distinctive rhythms .

Live and act

He studied composition with Fritz Heinrich Klein and conducting with Ludwig Leschetitzky at the (today) Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz.

In addition to his compositional activity, he taught music at the Bundesgymnasium Linz, Khevenhüllerstraße, until his retirement in 1986 . He was a member of the board of trustees of the International Operetta Society and a federal advisory board in the Brucknerbund. He was for many years Tonmeister also a freelancer of the ORF .

In the 1995/96 season, the Upper Austrian Brass Band Association selected the music from the operetta "Roulette der Herzen" (arrangement for wind orchestra by Josef Hartl) as one of the compulsory pieces for level C.

Further acknowledgments of his services were the award of the culture medal of the state of Upper Austria on June 19, 1996, the award of the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art by the Federal President with a resolution of August 20, 1999, and the award of the Great Decoration for Services to the City of Culture Linz on October 30, 2000.
