Osy Zimmermann (2011)

Osy Zimmermann (born April 2, 1946 in Zug ), actually Oswald Zimmermann , is a Swiss singer and music cabaret artist. He is the recipient of the Salzburg Bull 1983 and the Swiss Cabaret Prize Cornichon 1999.

Life

Osy Zimmermann was born as a triplet together with two sisters as the first of three by Josy Zimmermann-Kaiser, married to Hans Zimmermann from Lucerne . The birth of a triplet did not remain hidden and at that time it became a sensation in the small town of Zug. This enabled the boy to find his first audience at an early age.

Singing and theater were omnipresent in the Zimmermann-Kaiser family: the mother sang on the operetta stage in the casino in Zug and the father, a talented self-taught text writer, wrote ironically colored poems for family anniversaries. For fear of his parents that Osy Zimmermann might get on the wrong track because of his desire to become an artist, he trained as a typographer and became an advertising specialist. In addition, he trained as a classical singer with Beat Spörri, as an actor at the ILG Mime School in Zurich and as a self-accompanying pianist at the Lucerne Jazz School .

At the beginning of his stage work, Osy Zimmermann took part in the last program of the “Cabaret Durzug” in Zug (1972). Directed by César Keizer . In 1976 Zimmermann was selected as a young cabaret artist in a competition by the Swiss Radio DRS . In 1977 he performed his first full-length solo program: "Tell Solo, a music theater" with texts by Susanna Fassbind.

Zimmermann has been working exclusively as a freelancer since 1979 and describes himself as a "convertibleist". This term is a word created by Zimmermann and stands for his combination of cabaret, singing, drama, piano and Schwyzerörgeli .

Zimmermann showed numerous self-written programs, especially in Switzerland, but also in Germany and Austria. There were also appearances on radio and television, including in “Sprungbrettl” ( Süddeutscher Rundfunk ); “Studiobrettl” (Südwestrundfunk); “Show Stage” (ARD) with Alfred Biolek ; “Incidentally”, satirical broadcast, ( Swiss television ). His stage programs have taken him to many well-known German-speaking theaters, including a. in the " Münchner Lach und Schiess " (with Bärbel Schmid, Munich) and in the Mainz lower house . From 1979 with the program "Zimmitationen" (TV recording of the Süddeutscher Rundfunk); from 1982 with “Unterwegs für Sie”; from 1985 with “Lieder-licher Abend” (directed by Buschi Luginbühl), a parodic recital made up of classical and original songs. Zimmermann, the tenor and countertenor, embodied two different roles in coloratura and baritone in this program and was thus able to tell operatic history - over four octaves. Osy Zimmermann took part in the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival in 1989 with “Lieder-licher Abend” . The celebrated tenor, Peter Schreier , also appeared at the 1989 Palace Festival.

In 1987 the children's program "Orlando and his brother" was created in long-term collaboration with the author and director Paul Steinmann , in 1991 the "Winterreise" and in 1994 "Maiden Voyage". In 1995 Zimmermann played the pastor in Thomas Hürlimann's play "Der Franzos im Ybrig" at the Zurich Theater . Directed by Wolfgang Dietrich Sprenger. In 1998 a "request concert" followed and in 1999 a "world premiere". Zimmermann performed this program together with the musicians Manuel Hebeisen and Christoph Steiner. The three had already founded the "Oswald Streich Trio" in 1996. 1999 continued with "Tea for Two" with Daniela Schumacher on the piano and from 2003 with "Princess under water", a family program with Wolfgang Sieber on the organ (2008 in an English version "Princess under water"). In 2006 "Der Silberblaue Zeppelin" followed, a self-invented, parodic operetta. This one-man music theater gave Osy Zimmermann another opportunity to bring out his versatile voice. With the Zeppelin program, he also took part in the opening of the civic festival in 2008 as part of the 100th anniversary of the Zeppelin Foundation in Friedrichshafen and earned a lot of applause for it.

Between 2011 and 2013 Zimmermann put together a new program every year: 2011 “Jambo” songs and life, Switzerland Africa; 2012 “Bern Organ Walk”; 2013 “The cherries in the neighbor's garden”, together with the concert organist Martin Heini.

In 2015 Zimmermann could be seen in the play "Das Luftschiff" by Thomas Hürlimann in the role of "Alfonsine" at the Lucerne Open Air Play. Directed by Livio Andreina.

In 2019, Osy Zimmermann celebrated his departure from the stage with “Cabriété” in the theater in the Burgbachkeller in the city of Zug, where his stage career began more than 40 years ago.
