Wolfgang Sieber (musician)

Wolfgang Sieber (born September 11, 1954 in Lichtensteig ) is a Swiss organist , arranger , composer , pianist and cantor .

Life

After training as a primary and secondary school teacher in Wattwil, Wolfgang Sieber studied piano with Klaus Wolters and organ with Hans Vollenweider at the Music Academy and the Conservatory in Zurich. He graduated in 1979 with a teaching and concert qualification diploma. This is followed by master classes for organ and improvisation with the organists Gaston Litaize (Paris), Franz Lehrndorfer (Munich) and Jean Langlais (Paris).

Sieber has been a concert pianist and organist, répétiteur a. a. Active under Ferdinand Leitner , Sergiu Celibidache , accompanist and soloist. Since 1986 he has been a temporary board member of the SMPV Zentralschweiz and an accredited organ trainer (Bachelor and Master). After working as an organist in the parishes of Lichtensteig, Degersheim, Rotmonten SG and Liebfrauen ZH, he became the monastery organist in the parish of St. Leodegar im Hof in Lucerne in 1992 , where he is also the main organist.

For world premieres and composition projects he worked with the composers Naji Hakim , Carl Rütti , Petr Eben and Augustinus Franz Kropfreiter . He has also been playing with Willi Valotti , Paul Giger , Ludwig Wicki , Pierre Favre , Frank Sikora and Lukas Christinat since 1997 . In 2009 Wolfgang Sieber received the Art and Culture Prize of the City of Lucerne , and in 2014 he was awarded the “Golden Treble Clef”, the highest award in Swiss folk music.

Together with the organist Markus Kühnis and Christoph Kobelt as drummer and percussionist, he plays as the Timporg Trio .
