Ota Koval

Ota Koval (born April 11, 1931 in Dobřany , Czechoslovakia , † August 14, 1991 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak film director .

Life

Koval studied directing at FAMU and began working in the Barrandov film studios as an assistant director, director and screenwriter in the late 1960s . Together with Věra Plívová-Šimková , he was one of the study's renowned children's film directors in the 1970s and 1980s.

The comedy Lucie and the Miracles was one of his first children's films . The fairy tale film Der Katzenprinz was a co-production with DEFA , GDR. Koval remained loyal to children's films until shortly before his death. Among his discoveries are the child actors Žaneta Fuchsová and Filip Renč , whom he cast in his films.
