Othmar Brioschi
Othmar Brioschi (born September 17, 1854 in Vienna , † July 8, 1912 in Rome ) was an Austrian landscape painter .
life and work
Othmar Brioschi was the eldest son of the theater painter Carlo Brioschi (1826–1895) and brother of Anton Brioschi (1855–1920). First trained as a theater painter, he studied in Munich with Simon Quaglio (1795–1878), but at the same time at the Munich Academy from 1874 , where he operated figure painting from 1876 under Ludwig von Löfftz (1845–1910). From 1878 to 1880 he worked as his father's assistant in Vienna and exhibited paintings in the Künstlerhaus . From 1879 he is its member. Subsequently he studied at the master school for landscape painting with Eduard von Lichtenfels until 1882 and won the great state prize in 1882 with a two-year stay in Rome. In 1885 Othmar Brioschi moved to Rome, which became his permanent residence. In 1887 Brioschi married Maria, called Mimmy, daughter of the sculptor Heinrich Max Imhof , who had two daughters with him.
The artist's strength lay in the excellent representation of landscapes around Rome, which he reproduced in all possible moods with light effects and with a strong coloristic effect.
