Carlo Brioschi (born June 24, 1826 in Milan , † November 12, 1895 in Vienna ) was an Austrian theater painter.

life and work

Carlo Giovanni Aristide Brioschi was the son of the theater painter Giuseppe Brioschi († in Vienna 1856) and father of his sons Othmar Brioschi (1854–1912) and Anton Brioschi (1855–1920). In 1853 he worked in Paris . From 1856 to 1886 he was his father's successor as director of the painting studio at the Vienna Court Opera . He was a student of Leopold Kupelwieser , Thomas Ender and Franz Steinfeld (1787–1868) at the Vienna Academy .

Together with Johann Kautsky and Hermann Burghart , Carlo Brioschi founded the joint venture “Brioschi, Burghart and Kautsky, kuk Hoftheatermaler in Vienna”, in which, in addition to dozens of workers such as carpenters , locksmiths , mechanics and clerks , numerous painters such as Georg Janny , Konrad Petrides , Leopold Rothaug , Ferdinand Brunner and Alfons Mucha were active. The studio received orders at home and abroad and supplied, among others, houses in Germany, the Czech Republic, England and America ( Metropolitan Opera ). Among other things, the studio was responsible for the sets for the Vienna premiere of Tristan and Isolde .
