Othmar Faber

Othmar Faber (born November 3, 1927 in Gleiwitz , † November 15, 2008 in Dresden ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman .

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy , Faber received the sacrament of ordination from Bishop Heinrich Wienken on March 29, 1952 in the Cathedral of St. Petri in Bautzen . Then he was chaplain in Dresden-Cotta and from 1954 in Borna . From 1955 he worked as a local chaplain and parish vicar in Roßwein . In 1970 Faber was first parish administrator , from 1972 pastor of Riesa . In 1976 he was appointed to the episcopal ordinariate of the Dresden-Meißen diocese, where he headed the finance department as ordinarian councilor until 1991. In 1980 Faber also became the episcopal representative for the Dresden chapel boys and a member of the St. Petri cathedral chapter . On December 13, 1984, Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Papal Honorary Prelate .

Since 1984 Faber has been listed as IM Konstantin by the Ministry of State Security . Faber had a "briefing" from his bishop, so he maintained contact with the state security on his instructions. At the same time, Faber reported regularly to Bishop Gerhard Schaffran on the discussions with the state security officers. After Faber no longer managed the diocese's finances in 1991, he was rector of the diocesan charity association for three years .

Faber died on November 15, 2008 after a long illness in Dresden and was buried in the Old Catholic Cemetery in Dresden.
