Ottaviano Raggi (born December 31, 1592 in Genoa , † December 31, 1643 in Rome ) was an Italian bishop and cardinal .

biography

He was born on December 31, 1592, the son of Giacomo, Senator of the Republic since November 20, 1625, and Girolama di Negro. Ottaviano was the uncle of Cardinal Lorenzo Raggi .

He graduated from the University of Genoa in utroque iure and then moved to Rome to the Papal Curia . On November 19, 1617 he was appointed Apostolic Protonotary and two years later as trainee lawyer for the Signatura di grazia and the Signatura di giustizia .

Pope Urban VIII elevated him to cardinal in the consistory of December 16, 1641 . His inauguration took place on February 10, 1642 and he received the title of Cardinal Priest of Sant'Agostino .

His election as Bishop of Aleria in Corsica took place on January 12, 1643, and he was ordained bishop on February 1, 1643 in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore by Cardinal Giandomenico Spinola .

Ottaviano Raggi died on December 31, 1643 at the age of 51. His tomb is in the church of Il Gesù in Rome.
