Ottmarsbocholt is a district of the municipality of Senden in the Coesfeld district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Ottmarsbocholt is located 18 km southwest of Münster on the edge of the Davert , an extensive forest area in the central Münsterland .

history

Ottmarsbocholt is first mentioned as Amarasbokholte in a register of the Werden an der Ruhr Abbey around 980 . The parish of Oetmersboecholte was listed in 1188 in a property register of Count Heinrich von Dale. The formerly independent municipality was incorporated into the municipality of Senden on January 1, 1975 as part of the municipal reorganization . Buildings that characterize the townscape are the Catholic Church of St. Urban and the grain windmill, which has existed in its current form since 1856 and is the landmark of the town.

Regular events

Every year, one week before Carnival Sunday, the second largest carnival parade in the Münsterland takes place in Ottmarsbocholt - after the one in Münster. The move has been an integral part of village life since 1887.
