Otto Abt (Author)

Otto Abt (born January 13, 1931 in Stenden ; † September 26, 2019 ) was a German author.

Life

Abt was born into a family of teachers in Stenden (Kerken) on the Lower Rhine . After just a few years, his parents moved to Marienthal near Wesel. After the early death of his father, he often changed his place of residence and finished his school career with the Abitur at the grammar school in Borken .

At the then Pedagogical Academy in Essen- Kupferdreh he mainly studied philosophy and literature with Josef Pieper . His thesis, written in 1953 for his music professor and organ teacher Kohnle, was entitled: The phenomenological understanding of the essence of music as a prerequisite for a basic theory of music .

In 1953 he started his first job as a teacher at the one-class school in Obersdorf near Siegen. In 1960 he gave the first English lessons there at an elementary school in Siegerland, made music with his children at Orff's school work based on Carl Orff's score , as well as experimentally. In addition, he received training in puppet play from Friedrich Arndt , the representative of the Hohnsteiner puppet theater in West Germany. He also held the office of organist at the Obersdorf / Rödgen church.

In 1963 he took over the management of the two-class Catholic elementary school in Wilgersdorf. From there he regularly studied art history and pedagogy at the University of Cologne in his capacity as an organist (a teacher was strictly forbidden from studying part-time). From 1965/1966 he was the main teacher at the Catholic elementary school in Niederdielfen. There he was appointed the youngest arbitrator in the Siegerland at the time . In addition, he took on the training of the so-called “ Mikitty ” in the subject of music. He was part of the examination board for the first state examination.

In 1968 he came to the Hammerhütter School in Siegen, where he was promoted to rector after a short time . He also founded the Schola in Obersdorf / Rödgen. In 1975 he joined the largest elementary school in Siegen, the Fischbacherberg School, as headmaster. He was a lecturer in yoga and then Tai Chi Chuan at the community college in Siegen. During this time he also gave advanced training courses in sport - Chi Kong and Tai Chi - at the University of Siegen . He gave introductory presentations at a number of art exhibitions in Siegen and the surrounding area. In addition, he held the office of knowledgeable citizen at the City Council of Siegen as spokesman for the primary schools (1982–1990). He retired in 1993.

He has been a founding member and board member of the German-Indonesian Society of South Westphalia since 1985 . V. Furthermore, together with his wife, an Indonesian, he founded the Siegen Gamelan Orchestra.

Today the Abbot is a teacher of Tai Chi and Marga Luyu 151.

Mr. Friedhelm Schick, Kreuztal, edited Abb's compositions and successfully performed them with the LSD Quartet (Lahn, Sieg, Dill) since 13.09.2015 (concert in the Museum Wilnsdorf) during several concerts. On March 22nd, 2018 Klaus Kärcher, former solo oboist of the Gürzenich Orchestra, played Abbot's composition "Abendlied", in the arrangement and with piano accompaniment by Friedhelm Schick, as a world premiere in Siegen. (See: Siwikultur culture manual 2323) At the end of December 2018 "Canzone" was created. This piece of music was originally played on June 29, 2019 in Munich and in the arrangement for a quintet by Friedhelm Schick on April 25, 2019 in Siegen.

On October 9, 2016, Abbot's contribution - reading from his book: "Sister Nature" with a subsequent interview - was published on Literaturradio Bayern, on June 18, 2018 a reading from "Bright Lights" followed.

Literary activity

In addition to a few articles in the specialist press, the actual literary publications only appeared after his retirement. Berthold Damshäuser published the first poems in 1997 in “Orientationen”. Abt has been a member of the Free German Authors' Association in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2004.
