Otto Caspari (born May 24, 1841 in Berlin , † August 28, 1917 in Heidelberg ) was a German historian and philosopher .

Life

After studying in Berlin , Greifswald and Göttingen , he was at the University of Göttingen to Dr. phil. PhD . During his studies in 1861 he became a member of the Rugia Greifswald fraternity . After completing his studies, he completed his habilitation in 1869 at Heidelberg University , where he was appointed associate professor of philosophy. In addition to Ernst Krause and Gustav Jäger, he worked as editor and co-editor of the magazine Kosmos , which was dedicated to the popularization of the Darwinian worldview. In Heidelberg he was a member of the Masonic Lodge Ruprecht zu den five Rosen ; he was also a member of the Goethe Bund .

Friedrich Nietzsche received Capari's research in the area of epistemology as well as in the area of ​​prehistory and early history intensively and processed it in his own works.
