Otto Emicke

Otto Emicke (born April 27, 1891 in Ratibor , † October 19, 1970 in Freiberg ) was a German metallurgist.

Emicke studied chemistry and metallurgy at the Technical University in Breslau . In 1922 he did his doctorate at the TH Aachen and completed another doctorate in 1933 at the Montanistische Hochschule Leoben .

In 1928 he became an associate professor at the Bergakademie Freiberg . Two years later he set up an experimental rolling mill for rolling light metals into sheets and strips. In November 1933 he signed the professors' declaration of Adolf Hitler at German universities and colleges . In 1940 he joined the NSDAP . In 1942, Emicke became a full professor for deformation science and director of the Institute for Metal Forming.

Emicke left the Bergakademie in 1947. Until 1949 he worked as head of research in the Soviet iron and metallurgy office in Freiberg. In 1949 he became director of the Freiberg research institute for non-ferrous metals.

From 1955 Otto Emicke was a full member of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin . Emicke retired in 1956 and died in Freiberg in 1970. He was buried in the Donatsfriedhof .
