The Alkuser Rotspitze (also Great Alkuser Rotspitze ), a mountain with a height of 3053  m above sea level. A. , is located in the Schober group of the Hohe Tauern in Austria . The summit is about 10 km as the crow flies north-northwest of Lienz in East Tyrol . The normal ascent is relatively easy to climb in dry and snow-free conditions. If the weather conditions are right, the summit offers a beautiful view of the mountain world of the Schober group, especially to the Petzeck and Hochschober .

Origin of name

The field name Alkus was documented as early as 1206 and, in addition to the district of the municipality of Ainet, also denotes the Alkuser See , the Alkuser Scharte, as well as alpine pastures and mountain meadows. The origin of the name Alkus cannot be clearly proven. Due to the older spelling of “old Gose” or “old gases”, some name researchers interpret “alkus” as old gases , which in turn would derive from the Latin casa .

rise

The unmarked normal ascent to the Alkuser Rotspitze takes place from the south of the mountain Alkuser See ( 2432  m ) on the connecting ridge between the small Rotspitze and Alkuser Rotspitze and on this in a north-westerly direction to the summit with a cross. The ascent has difficulty I in a few places and takes around 2 hours from Lake Alkuser.
