Otto Friedrich von Richter

Otto Friedrich von Richter (born August 6, 1792 in Neu-Kusthof ( Estonian : Vastse-Kuuste ) near Dorpat , Livonia ; † August 13, 1816 in Smyrna , Ottoman Empire ) was a philologist and explorer.

Life

Otto Friedrich was a member of the Baltic noble family von Richter . His father was the Livonian state politician Otto Magnus von Richter (1755-1826).

Richter studied classical philology and oriental languages ​​in Heidelberg, Vienna and Constantinople. In 1809 he became a member of the Corps Curonia in Heidelberg . In 1815 he toured Egypt and Nubia with Sven Frederik Lidman (1784–1845), and in 1816 Constantinople and Asia Minor. On this last trip he succumbed to an infectious disease.

His brother was the Livonian country marshal Eduard von Richter .
