Rudolf Oeser (born October 21, 1807 in Gießen ; † October 13, 1859 in Lindheim , Hessen ) was a pastor and folk writer.

Life

Oeser grew up as the son of a court judge in Gießen , where he also studied theology from 1827 to 1830. During his studies in 1827 he became a member of the old Gießen fraternity Germania . From 1831 to 1833 he worked as a private tutor in Pfungstadt , then for two years as a parish assistant in Rodheim , from 1835 until his death in 1859 he held the pastoral position in Lindheim .

Under the pseudonym O. Glaubrecht (= Oeser, Glaubrecht !, often wrongly resolved as Otto Glaubrecht), Oeser wrote numerous stories and novels , most of which were about historical events or village and everyday life. In addition, Oeser worked for the evangelical-conservative “Volksblatt für Stadt und Land” published in Halle and was considered an authority on the theory and criticism of popular writing. Oeser stands for a current that turned popular education and folk writing away from the original enlightenment concept and used it to convey conservative values. Based on an idyllic idea of the people in village and small town , this literature followed the idea that everything good and beautiful should be preserved, but everything new and foreign should be prevented. Oeser is considered the most important representative of this literary direction. His works show regional, folk and Christian, sometimes even strongly anti-Semitic motifs. This was mostly combined with a moralizing and instructive narrative style. Oeser's whereabouts, such as Lindheim , Gießen , Grünberg or Saasen, were literary models .

His son Hermann Oeser also became a writer.

In Gießen and Rabenau there is one Glaubrechtstrasse each.
