Otto Graf (born September 13, 1882 in Achern , Baden , † 1950 ibid.) Was a decorative and landscape painter whose works are primarily known regionally. He worked as a painter in southern Germany and on his trips abroad in Italy , France , the Netherlands and Tyrol .

Life

Otto Graf was born on September 13, 1882 in Achern. He was the son of the farmer Anton Graf d. Ä. and his wife Rosina, b. Pointed knife. Graf completed his military service in Mulhouse / Alsace from 1902 to 1904. In 1904 he attended the Karlsruhe School of Applied Arts (today: State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe ). In 1910 he was accepted into the Karlsruhe Art Academy and was also a member of the Karlsruhe Artists' Association. His teachers were u. a. Friedrich Fehr (deceased 1927), Walter Georgi , Taubner and Schmidt-Reute. From 1914 to 1918 he took part in the First World War. His works were represented at the German Art Exhibition between 1913 and 1922, which were shown in the Kunsthalle Baden-Baden : In 1913 with Am See , in 1917 with Hütender Gaisbub , Altwasser near Wörth and Akt am Feuer , in 1920 with a studio visit and 1922 with regatta on Lake Constance and with the picture Der Alte . Otto Graf remained unmarried throughout his life. In 1924 and 1928 he made trips to Italy that took him to Naples . A stay in Paris followed in 1926. In 1927 he visited the Netherlands and in 1930 Tyrol. While he was setting up his studio in Karlsruhe , he continued to live in Achern , at the corner of Friedrichstrasse and Ratskellerstrasse.

Otto Graf created numerous landscape and genre paintings . His works include: For example, the painting View into the Rhine Plain with a Shepherd Boy Playing the Flute (oil on cardboard, 45 × 50.5 cm) from 1915 or the boat section on the Rhine from 1919 (oil on canvas, 59.9 × 80 cm). Many of his works were destroyed in a bomb hit his studio during World War II. In view of these losses, the mentions in art catalogs and the images in Oestering's essay about Otto Graf are important; these are the paintings: Politiker , Oppenau , "Gaisbub", "Kapelle", "An 80 year old Black Forest", "Ducks in the brook" "autumn morning at the lake", "Sunday morning," "My mother," Mainaublick , Sasbachwalden overlooking the Rhine valley , landscape , summer morning , Old water with Gondler and self-portrait .
