Walter Georgi (born April 10, 1871 in Leipzig , † June 17, 1924 in Holzhausen am Ammersee ) was a German painter and illustrator .

The son of the Mayor of Leipzig, Otto Georgi, attended the royal high school in his hometown from Easter 1882 to Easter 1888 . From 1890 he studied with Paul Wehle at the Art Academy Leipzig and 1890/91 at the Art Academy Dresden with Leon Pohle . In 1893 he came to Paul Hoecker at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich .

From 1896 he became one of the main employees of the weekly newspaper Die Jugend und des Simplicissimus . Here he came into contact with the "Group G" and founded the " Scholle " with its members in 1899 in order to be able to exhibit together in the Glass Palace .

After various stays in Leipzig, Weimar and Düsseldorf , Georgi finally settled in Holzhausen am Ammersee , where an artist colony soon developed with other members of the “ Scholle ” . In 1908 he received a professorship at the Karlsruhe Art Academy , which he held until 1919. The Freiburg painter and sculptor Eva Eisenlohr was one of his students .

Walter Georgi was a member of the German Association of Artists . In 1912 he became a member of the Werkbund , in 1914 he went to study in Brittany . From 1914 onwards, Georgi demonstrably designed 25 field postcards for the Bahlsen . Walter Georgi died on June 17, 1924 in Holzhausen am Ammersee at the age of 53.
