Pohle's early works were still very much attached to genre painting , partly because of his teachers . Later he found his own style in history painting . In 1877 Pohle accepted a position as a lecturer at the Dresden Art Academy, where he was given a full professorship . He also made a name for himself as a portraitist ; Worth mentioning here are the portraits of the painters Ludwig Richter and Carl Gottlieb Peschel and the sculptor Ernst Hähnel . Pohle took part in several exhibitions at the art academy, and his work was also awarded a gold medal. Among Pohle's students were u. a. also the later Dresden court advisor Paul Poetzsch (1858-1936) and the academy professor Osmar Schindler .

Pohle died on February 27, 1908 in Dresden at the age of 66. He found his final resting place in Dresden-Johannstadt on the Trinitatisfriedhof ; his grave has not been preserved.
