Osmar Heinrich Volkmar Schindler (born December 22, 1867 in Burkhardtsdorf , † June 19, 1927 in Wachwitz near Dresden) was a German painter.

Live and act

The family moved to Bischofswerda in 1876 , where the father died in 1878. The support of an uncle enabled Schindler to study at the Dresden Art Academy . Here were Ferdinand Pauwels and Leon Pohle his teachers. Until his return to Germany in 1895, Schindler made trips abroad to Belgium, Holland, France and Italy.

In 1900 the art academy brought him back, where he was appointed professor three years later and taught until 1924. He led the modeling class and a painting room and counted George Grosz , Karl Hanusch , Bernhard Kretzschmar and Paul Wilhelm among his students. He is also considered to be the discoverer of Hanns Georgi .

Schindler saw Bischofswerda as his real home and remained connected to the city throughout his life. He created his last, unfinished work for the sacristy of the Christ Church there. He was buried in the Loschwitz cemetery .

Osmar Schindler was a member of the German Association of Artists .
