Otto Gsell
Robert Otto Gsell , also Otto Gsell-Dietschi (born March 30, 1902 in St. Gallen ; † November 26, 1990 in Arizona ), was a Swiss internist and university professor and director of the Medical Polyclinic at the University of Basel. He mainly dealt with infectious diseases and described the cystic median necrosis Erdheim-Gsell , which was later named after him .
Live and act
Otto Gsell was the son of the doctor Karl Otto Gsell (Otto Gsell-Bärlocher, 1868-1944) and his wife Irma Sabina Bärlocher (* 1872). He studied medicine at the universities of Geneva , Kiel , Paris , Vienna and Zurich . In 1926 he received his doctorate with the writing Neuere Camphorpräparate with his own research on Coramin . He worked as an assistant at the University of Basel and then at the University Hospital Zurich , where he received a senior physician position. From 1936 Otto Gsell was chief physician in the department for internal medicine at the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen and from 1953 to 1971 professor for internal medicine at the University of Basel.
Otto Gsell described 1928 later for him and Jakob Erdheim named cystic medial necrosis Erdheim Gsell . In 1952 Gsell was awarded the Marcel Benoist Prize for his research on leptospiroses . The swineherd disease , one by Leptospira pomona leptospirosis caused is also referred to as "Bouget-Gsell disease". From 1979 to 1982 Gsell headed the Central Ethics Committee (ZEK) of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS). Otto Gsell held honorary doctorates from the University of Göttingen and the University of Turku .
His first marriage was to Luise Klara Dietschi, and his second marriage to Doris Blauenstein.
