Otto Hecht
Otto Hecht (born April 26, 1900 in Ulm , † November 17, 1973 in Mexico City ) was a German entomologist .
Live and act
Otto Hecht was the son of the general practitioner Ludwig Hecht and Rosa Hecht, née Thalmessinger. He studied zoology and chemistry at the University of Munich . After graduating as Dr. phil. In 1923 he went to Landsberg am Lech , where he found work in an agricultural test laboratory. He later went to Czechoslovakia , where he worked in the chemical industry, followed by a position at the Tesch und Stabenow International Society for Pest Control in Hamburg . The Institute for Ship and Tropical Diseases employed him from 1927 as a scientific assistant in the entomological department.
During the time of National Socialism , Hecht was considered a " non-Aryan ". For this reason, the institute released him at the end of July 1933. Hecht and his family emigrated to Palestine . Until December 1936 he worked in the entomological department of the agricultural research station in Rechovot , which was operated by the Jewish Agency . In January 1937 he moved to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a research fellow . Here he worked in the Department of Experimental Pathology until June 1940. He then did research for the Venezuelan government in several temporary projects. A pest control company in Mexico City employed Hecht as a biologist from August 1945. He also took on a teaching position at the Technical University of Applied Entomology. From 1956 to 1960 he headed the entomological research group for the malaria eradication campaign . In 1961 he received a professorship in general and medical entomology at the Biological Faculty of the Mexican Technical University.
In 1956, the Federal Republic of Germany granted him the legal status of a department head a. D. at the Hamburg Tropical Institute. He was later also financially compensated.
