Otto Hellwig (politician)

Otto Georg Friedrich Hellwig (born February 22, 1838 in Berlin ; † July 19, 1915 there ) was a German politician .

Life

Born as the son of the secret legation councilor Friedrich Hellwig , Hellwig studied law in Bonn after attending the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Berlin . During his studies he became a member of the Frankonia fraternity in Bonn in 1857 . He took part in the German-Danish War in 1864 and in the German War in 1866 . After exams and legal clerkship , he went to the Prussian Foreign Ministry in 1865 . In 1867 he became a regular travel agent and in 1870 he became a legation councilor . He also took part in the Franco-German War in 1870/71. In 1871 he temporarily headed the Paris consulate and in 1872 became a permanent laborer in the Foreign Office . In 1873 he was promoted to the Real Legation Council and became a lecturer in the Foreign Office. In 1877 he became a secret legation councilor. In 1884 he was acting as director in the Foreign Office. There he was promoted to director in 1885, appointed real secret councilor and head of the legal department . In 1885 he was Deputy Plenipotentiary to the Federal Council , in 1886 he became a member of the Prussian State Council . In 1895 he became a Real Privy Councilor with the title of Excellence . In 1902 he retired. From 1869 to 1884 he was a member of the board of directors of the Berlin Singakademie , with which the family, since the court and cathedral organist Ludwig Hellwig was deputy director there, was closely connected until the 20th century.
