Otto Hurraß

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otto Hurraß (born April 21, 1902 in Bockwitz , † February 23, 1934 in Lichtenburg concentration camp in Prettin ) was a German communist.

Live and act

Hurraß, who was a locksmith by profession, joined the workers' youth movement and became a co-founder of the Free Socialist Youth Groups in Bockwitz. After completing his apprenticeship, Hurraß went on a hike, acquired knowledge of vehicle technology and acquired a driver's license. When he returned, he opened a small repair shop in Bockwitz, and earned his living from wage transport and bicycle repairs. He was involved in the Communist Youth Association , later in the Red Front Fighters League . In connection with the March fighting in Central Germany, he worked in a local action committee to set up armed groups of workers. For this he had to serve a first prison sentence.

Because of his activities, he was taken into " protective custody " for two months in the summer of 1933 . A traitor later claimed that he was hiding a machine gun on his residential property, but it was not found. Nevertheless, he was arrested on February 22, 1934 and taken to the Lichtenburg concentration camp , where he was killed by members of the SS on the night of February 23, 1934. An investigation by the Torgau public prosecutor's office (file number 3 J 285/34) initiated by Hurraß's widow Ida was put down.

To this day, streets named after Hurraß exist in East Germany, such as Otto-Hurraß-Straße in Doberschau -Gaußig or Otto-Hurraß-Straße in Lauchhammer . In the GDR , a school in Schwarzheide and a cultural center in Lauchhammer were also named after Otto Hurraß. A memorial that still exists, also erected in the GDR, in the Volkspark von Lauchhammer-West , in the main part of the park, to the right of the central roundabout, is also dedicated to Hurraß.
