Otto Kohlrausch

Otto Ludwig Bernhard Kohlrausch (born March 20, 1811 in Barmen (today a part of Wuppertal ), † November 14, 1854 in Hanover ) was a German doctor . He described the plica transversalis recti (also Kohlrausch fold ), the middle and largest of the rectal folds .

Otto Kohlrausch came from a German family of scholars, which also includes the physicist Friedrich Kohlrausch , the criminal lawyer Eduard Kohlrausch and the sports medicine specialist Wolfgang Kohlrausch .

He first studied natural sciences at the University of Bonn , then medicine at the Georg-August University of Göttingen from 1830 . During his studies in 1832 he became a member of the Germania Bonn fraternity . In 1835 he settled in Hanover as a doctor and made a name for himself as a surgeon . In 1841 he set up a health resort in Bad Rehburg on behalf of the government .

He rose to the position of Royal Court Surgeon and was from 1847 Medical Councilor in the Upper Medical College.
