Otto Kraupp

Otto Kraupp (born October 23, 1920 in Krems ; † February 9, 1998 in Baden near Vienna ) was an Austrian pharmacologist and university professor .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Baden in 1938, he received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Vienna in 1944 and as a chemist in 1952.

In 1950 he started working at the Vienna Pharmacological Institute. He completed his habilitation in experimental pharmacology and toxicology in 1956. He became associate professor in 1962 and full professor in 1968.

From 1967 to 1971 he was head of the Pharmacological Institute at the Ruhr University in Bochum . In 1967 and 1968 he was suppl. Head of the Pharmacological Institute Graz. From 1971 until 1992 he was director of the Vienna Pharmacological Institute.

For many years he was vice dean, dean and preacher at the medical faculty in Vienna.

For more than 200 scientific publications, Kraupp also became a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina . He was editor-in-chief at Wiener Klinische Wochenschrift for 25 years. He also had his seat on the highest medical council . He was also involved in the Austrian Medicines Act.

Appreciation

The Society of Doctors in Vienna has been awarding the Otto Kraupp Prize annually since 1999 for the best medical habilitation accepted at an Austrian university.
