The Heimbach is an almost eight kilometers long left tributary of the Sauer in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region .

course

The Heimbach rises in three spring branches at a height of about 370  m in the Northern Vosges in the Forêt Domaniale de Sickingen on the eastern slope of the Duerrenberg not far from the German-French border.

After their confluence, the Heimbach forms two small ponds. On its further course towards the south, left past the Dahner Kirchenwald and then right at the Bois de Wingen , it is strengthened by some nameless inflows. It now passes Petit Wingen, also called Neudoerfel, a district of Wingen , then flows through the Gewann Lochmuehl and turns to the southwest at Grundberg . It now flows through a forest landscape, then turns west and now reaches the municipality of Lembach , where it finally flows underground into the Sauer at an altitude of about 180  m .
