Otto Maria Reis

Otto Maria Reis (born March 30, 1862 in Worms , † April 17, 1934 in Munich ) was a German geologist and paleontologist. He was Senior Mining Director at the Bavarian Mining Authority in Munich.

Life

In 1894 he was assistant at the Oberbergamt in Munich, from 1902 state geologist and from 1913 Oberbergrat and board member and in 1921 he became Oberbergdirektor. There he was in charge of the geognostic department (geological survey).

With August Leppla and Carl Wilhelm Gümbel , he is one of the pioneers in researching the geology of the Palatinate. For example, he researched and named the Remigiusberg Formation , the Altenglan Formation and the Wahnwege Formation (with Ludwig von Ammon 1910).

In 1920 he became a member of the German Geological Society . In 1932 he became an honorary member of the Upper Rhine Geological Association .
