Otto Procksch (born August 9, 1874 in Eisenberg (Thuringia) , † April 7, 1947 in Alterschrofen , Bavarian Swabia ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian ( Old Testament scholar ).

Life

Procksch studied Protestant theology at the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen . From 1906 he held a professorship at the Royal / Prussian University of Greifswald . In 1907/08 and 1913 he took part in research excursions of the German Palestine Institute (Jerusalem) under Gustaf Dalman on a scholarship . In 1917 he became honorary philistine of the Greifswalder Wingolf . In 1925 Procksch switched to the Old Testament chair in Erlangen . Procksch is considered a teacher of theologians such as Albrecht Alt , Walther Eichrodt or Gerhard von Rad .

Politically, Procksch, like his colleagues Althaus and Elert , was nationally conservative and monarchist and rejected National Socialism .

Otto Procksch was related to Elisabeth Procksch. Wenck, b. Anders (1867–1951) married. His father was the classical philologist August Procksch .
