Otto Schiek

Otto Schiek (alternative spelling: Otto Schieck ; * October 5, 1898 in Großenlupnitz ; † March 4, 1980 in Weimar ) was a German politician of the KPD .

Live and act

Otto Schiek attended elementary school in Eisenach from 1905 to 1913 . He then completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith from 1913 to 1916 and attended the trade school in Eisenach. From 1916 to 1918 Schiek took part in the First World War. After the war Schiek returned to his old job. Until the 1930s he worked as a locksmith in automobile and army production. From 1916 to 1929 Schiek was organized in the German Metal Workers' Association. Because of the participation in an independent communist list for the works council election in the context of the application of strategies of the Revolutionary Trade Union Opposition (RGO) he was excluded from the association in 1929. In addition, Schiek served as works council of Bayerische Motorwerke in the Eisenach branch.

In 1922 Schiek joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). In July 1932 , Schiek was elected to the Reichstag as his party's candidate for constituency 12 (Thuringia) . In the Reichstag elections of March 1933 , Schiek's mandate was confirmed, but he was no longer able to take his place in parliament due to the Communist persecution by the National Socialists that began at that time.

Otto Schiek also held a number of offices in the KPD's sports organization: He was chairman of the Eisenach Free Gymnastics Association, area manager in the Eisenach sub-district and member of the Reich leadership of the combat community for red sports units . On March 24, 1934 Otto Schiek was arrested by the Gestapo . This was followed by three years of solitary confinement in the Untermaßfeld prison near Meiningen . Following solitary confinement, he was abducted to Sachsenhausen concentration camp and released on May 26, 1939. Because of his illegal activities against the National Socialists , Otto Schiek was arrested again in August 1944 and was taken to the Buchenwald concentration camp , where he remained until May 1945.

After 1945 he was four district administrator of the district Eisenach , then deputy director of the VEB Carl Zeiss Jena , then director of the VEB drill work Gera and finally to retirement director of the VEB Wälzkörperwerk Bad Liebenstein .

In 1973 he received the gold medal for the Patriotic Order of Merit .
